Amboseli is famous for two things: enormous elephant herds and the postcard view of Mount Kilimanjaro rising from the Tanzanian border. The park is one of the best places in Africa to observe elephant family behaviour at close range.
Despite being relatively small (392 km²), Amboseli supports a remarkable variety of wildlife thanks to underground springs from Kilimanjaro that create permanent swamps and wetlands. Cheetahs, lions, hyenas, giraffes, and over 400 bird species call the park home.
