Volcanoes National Park covers 160 km² of montane forest and bamboo on the Rwandan slopes of the Virunga Mountains — five towering volcanoes shared with Uganda and the DRC. It is one of just three places on Earth where mountain gorillas can be tracked.
Dian Fossey conducted her famous gorilla research here for 18 years, and visitors can hike to her grave at the former Karisoke Research Center. The park is also home to golden monkeys and offers some of the most well-organized gorilla treks in Africa.
