Bwindi Impenetrable National Park covers 331 km² of dense montane and lowland rainforest in southwestern Uganda — a UNESCO World Heritage Site protecting roughly half of the world’s remaining mountain gorillas.
The park’s name reflects what visitors find: a thick, ancient forest of vines and tangled undergrowth, home to over 400 gorillas across more than 20 habituated families. Trekking with experienced rangers leads you to within metres of these gentle giants in their natural habitat.
Beyond gorillas, Bwindi shelters 350+ bird species including 23 Albertine Rift endemics, 120 mammal species, and over 200 butterfly species — making it one of the most biodiverse forests in East Africa.
