Murchison Falls is Uganda’s largest national park (3,840 km²), bisected by the Victoria Nile as it forces itself through a narrow rocky cleft to plunge 43 metres in a roar of white water — one of the most powerful waterfalls in the world.
The northern bank delta hosts massive concentrations of elephants, giraffes, lions, buffalo, hippos, and Nile crocodiles. Boat cruises to the base of the falls are unmissable, and a hike to the top of the falls offers a visceral view of the river’s power.
The park is also home to over 450 bird species, including the rare shoebill stork found in the Nile delta swamps.
